Passion Play....

So thus begins, Wendel's take on Easter, or the Holy Week. Please again do not be alarmed by the horrific Religious over tones, for those who know me I am Agnostic, but raised Anglican, and I sing every Sunday in a High Anglican Catherdral. I am not forcing any thought on the matter, but choose to write to enlighten, and for those that are intelligent, you may want to broaden your "depth", in terms of this thing we call "Religion".
As always at this time of year, Easter for many, Holy Week for some, I am yet bombarded by the "Story of Jesus". You may only think of him as Santa at Christmas and that is some what related to a Bunny and Chocolate. Whatever Religion you may be following these days, I am reminded of a story....that is why I think the Bible is one of the Greatest Books ever written. We all talk about it, and wars are fought over the Intrepretation of the Verses. And still so many are quick to judge ME, as a "Jesus Junkie". Please, learning the story can open so many doors in ways of intelligence, if you like or know Art, Literature, Film, History, then so many have used reference to the Bible.
I direct all of you this weekend, if you have not seen "The Passion of the Christ" by Mel Gibson, then I strongly suggest it. Not only will this film give you insight into the PURPOSE and MEANING of this Holy Week, or why in fact we CELEBRATE EASTER, and its not just for Chocolate.......it gives an insight into the Jewish faith and many others that have sprung from the very vague notion know as "Christianity".
Because I sing in an High Anglican Church, it has been my "Easter Tradition" now to watch "The Passion" after the Maundy Thursday service....for this is when Jesus walked into the Garden to contemplate his emindent Death. And I learn so much from it every year...about the Jewish faith, the Muslims...why Religion in itself is such a fascinating study. The Apostles, the members of the Passion Play, and why we eat and drink body of Christ? Ever heard that murmded by your grandparents and you think HUH? In this day and age of a loss of dedication to the Church....I still attend, and I think and I know the reason why. I don't think anyone reading this email really knows what "Easter" or the Holy Week is all about??? I have asked NUMEROUS TIMES for friends and family to come and see me sing....they think it is all Happy Clappy "Praise Jesus" shite......they have no idea, because everyone is afraid to come..like I am some Morman, ready to convert all of you at the door. It is about the music for me...and the sheer WANT to understand WHY these people truly believe?? And the story, the symbolism.you CANNOT understand GREAT ART, without knowing the stories of the Bible......unless you want your Art knowledge to start at Warhol and carry on from there...
I just don't get people again....why so much ignorance and FEAR, of what they don't know...THAT is what I think is truly UN-intelligent of Man. Why are all of our famous Scholars, Religious in some Sect or another???
Back to "The Passion of the Christ", don't get me wrong, I think Mel Gibson is a Jew hating, Gore Loving Hollywood Bigit.....but this movie is truly WORTH watching!! It properly protrays the Biblical Story, with all of the Characters and all of the underlying literature symbolism is not lost. Nothing like watching a movie where it is adapted from your most loved book, and they rip it to shreds.....this film is true to character and form. And it teaches you SO MUCH, if you are ready to learn it, The Jewish faith, Catholic, Christianity as a whole. And the true message. And yes I will agree, Artistically it was a an excuse for Mel to make another "Gore fight film", BUT UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND THE TRUE meaning of Jesus and his suffering in the Bible, which Mel chose to portray as a PHYSICAL manifestiation, then the Artists view or the Intellilect is gone. I have never seen such a beautiful portrayal brought to life at the end of this film of the famous Painting "The Pieta" by Michelanglo, a true GREAT Artist, did anyone ever THINK TO WHAT INSPIRED HIM?? The film with the Actors, and good writing, the Artistic scene was brought to life, this is highly overlooked by those that think that this is "Religious Follower Movie".....much tears, and as bad as Mel is to me in so many ways, this was award winning..and again snuffed by The Academy I'm sure for it's "Relgious Content"/ Why are so many people afraid of something they don't understand?
This is my Easter Rant...and I think I will stand by my thought; "Yeah Jesus", because no one really gets it or cares, they would rather hear about Britney Spears and Madonna's new Religion.....I will give props to Madonna though......she at least knows what is going on!

A bit of Advice...

STOP LISTENING TO THOSE AROUND YOU AND START LISTENING TO YOUR INNER VOICE!!! AND YOURSELF FOR FUCKS SAKE!!!!!
This is a very rude and vague comment comes from many ways that I have been bomb-barted in the last month. Its seems very true to me, that people as a species, take a lot of care and concern to those that are around them at a certain time. And Wendy has fallen victim to this MANY times, so I offer no excuse for myself at this point. And we as a species, will take the word of others to be "true" if it is said to us enough. Ex. if someone was to tell me on a regular basis that my hairstyle sucks! I would in vanity believe it to be true...Vanity or self esteem seems to be a very true sensitive issue for A LOT OF PEOPLE< ALL OF US, whether they think or not.

But it seems to me that it is VERY poor excuse to lose friends, or a job, or a marriage, or ANYTHING THAT IS IMPORTANT, which should be the latter or the matter, over a lack of communincation, which leads the cirle back to, listening to others..so many issues I know NOW OF, whether it be in the NEWS, or in a friend conversation, seems to be this lack of getting to know REALLY what the other person has to say. We as a race, seem to quick to judge, and to point right off what we know has happened in the past to hurt us...and I can use many Politcial figures here as well..COLD WAR is a good example of how we really relate to each other....I know I seem like I am going down some Oprah/Maya Angelo road here, but think about it...have no regrets in what you have to say....and try to get to communicate your point, because it will soon be lost.....pick your battles, and if the other side has closed it's gates, then you have to let them. Those who have closed their gates will open another to someone else, but has still not dealt with what they left behind.
If anyone out there is like me..which I doubt, but if you are CUTOS! , I wear my love on my sleeve, and I am pretty transparent.....I'm a creature of talk to me.for if you leave it to others then you may be mis-guided.
Why do think I like Pink Floyd "Talk" so much........if you haven't listened lately you must...maybe it would put some life into perspective.....this goes to so many of my friends right now....and I LOVE YOU ALL.....
As for Wendel....I'm Coming Back to Life.
(and I would like to thank Pink Floyd for those lines.......)

The Russian Furturists

Merl, if I was here I would pee my pants!

Ok I will write something...

I'm sorry folk, we as HUMANS, are very afraid of change, and so I fall in the same mold. And moldy I do feel. But there has been a lot of change in the last few weeks that has stunded my creative writing mold, and made me make the easy escape of visual stimulation. And yes, I do feel like I have numbed myself. I have to break free of the You Tube addiction and walk down the street!!
And so I did.
I had to take a day off work due to Gastric Proportions, literally, and it just so happened to be on a balmy Chinook sunny day of plus 12. I walked slowly down 4th Ave, and actually parked myself on a bench to people watch. I have not done this in sooo long, it was like my skin was dry and my body just needed to drink it in. I watched a truck get a ticket in front of me, with the Meter Maid arguing with the old farmer getting said ticket. And I talked to a German Shepard left in the back of a Orange County Chopper truck cab waiting for his Dad to come back. "You ok Puppy?". and ANY dog will ALWAYS raise his head and smile at you no matter how vicious they are!
And I went into a local Gallery, Gawked at the most unbearing attainable acrylic masterpiece, and looked around LuLemon, I know I spelt it wrong and don't care, the store I HATE cause I could not afford a pair of socks in there, and I sat and took in the SUN. BEAuTIFUL!
After watching all the joggers, and people coming and going from Starbucks or Safeway with bags full of groceries from my flat window, walking dogs of various sizes, and holding hands with various sexes and races. When the sun went down on a perfect evening of spring quite, I can see the sunset in the reflection of the building two streets south. I went to Choir practise at 7pm, gave praise to my Children of Genius, and took in their insight under the God light of our weekly "Pew Talks". And I was rightly told "Everything will change".
And there it is!

Reb's and I FAV Simpsons Episode!

Very Touching Short Movie

This is from that movie that I tell EVERYONE TO SEE, and there I go and forget the title. The 9 shorts, 9 minutes and 11 long, from Directors around the world. This was USA. Done by Sean Penn.

Line Man!

I found him! Indeed he is Spanish, when I was five and he came on before the Chalk Drawings of Simon, I probably really did think he sounded like the Teacher from Peanuts talking rubbish! But this is a very clever idea in itself in the 70's when it came out, and this can catapulte flash animation to NEW ideas...Very cool!

Well I know my is SIMON!

This is something I love

I rememeber so sweetly and ever so vididly when I first saw this movie. Already in love with Shakespeare, his prose and verse, I know that sounds so gay, but I did.
"Give me my Romeo; and, when he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun."
I love the adaptation of the characters, I LOVED the set, the kitchey way of bringing Mary and Catholism to a full force. Look at the CITY SETS???? Guns versus swords, the cars, the scape, the SETTING< this adaptation is brilliant! The story line, the sweet innocence and beliveability of Leo loving Claire, and oh Mercuitio, played so well, time tested and true love and travesty story. I fell in love. I love stories, imagination. Love and Drama, what I cannot (and do not wish) upon myself. So much can be so beautifully portrayed before my eyes. I know some of you may think this film was pretty gay......I beg you to listen to the soundtrack. Re-Read some of Shakespeare prose, if you have not and do not appreciate, then no, I would guess you would not like this film. Ahhh Shakespeare, He is my hero. Such a way with my favorite, words.

FebRUary

Well I guess I have not written anything for awhile. I'm keeping it all in my head. Busy like a bee, or rather a hummingbird floating between Edmonton and Calgary. I am inparticular, really fond of this set up, a redo in Calgary.

The first photo is AFTER, the next is BEFORE.

NY

A Revelation!

This is my horoscope today....as I am dreaming ever so lovingly of going back to..
NEW YORK!
An unexpected bolt of awareness can awaken you from your sleepy consciousness today, thrusting you into a strange and uncertain orbit of thought. Although the Aquarian Moon doesn't make you feel very comfortable, it can sound a wakeup call to remind you of the possibilities you previously set aside. Don't shut out any ideas now, however crazy they might seem.

Let me just say, that I am giving it GRRRREAT thought! HOW can I get there?

My Mom is the most beautiful woman I know, and I only hope that I can be as GENEROUS, LOVING, and GIVING as her, Miss Bear just adores her!

Well they aren't the best photos, but they did make the front page of the Calgary Herald Home Section.
I did that house! (With the help of Mr. Kuzmanovich of coarse), but I am proud!

What a???

"What a beautiful world this would be? What a glorious time to be free?"
How profound is that statement, and when would you have the chance to use it in casual conversation? I do hope I do say that one day, when I am sitting on the veranda of some hotel overlooking the African Serengeti. (And I hope Karen is beside me pointing out the highlights.)
In talking with a friend today, and a new one and dear one at that, I was reminded how IMPORTANT relationships are. Relationships, like friends, lovers, colleagues, husbands and wives, that really is what makes your day. Molds and turns you down the next path in life. We are creatures that do indeed have the intelligence to walk down our path, but what makes life most interesting, fun and inspiring, is letting others affect you, EFFECT you.
When you can get so caught up in your own mind, what is afflicting yourself alone at that moment, when you share your world with those people around you, tilt it, some how your perspective can be just scewed in a way that when you tilt that picture their way, it becames more clear.
Independence is a great thing, and every morning when the day is beginning, you have the ability to start effecting others with "Your" mindset. But take note of how much you can take in, listening to others.
Listen, and you can filter.
"All lies and jest, still a man hears what he wants to hear, and disregards the rest."

Tuesday, February 6, 2007

Umm Alberta?

I don't know if I can do this anymore? Pretending that my life is one way when I know it the most opposite? I wake up every morning thinking, what am I doing here? Yet something is keeping me here, and I feel funny, with the music that I blare in the car while I have my smoke in the morning/ What am I doing here? Not that I ever felt grounded in Ontario, sometimes when I look at those mountains, I feel shameful that I have not been up close in too long, and sometimes when I look at them at a distance, I think, will I miss them if they are gone? I hate the cold minus 30, and I hate my dry nose, but I love Chinook skies, and the balmy day in mid February.
FUCK, I don't know where my head is at?

Christ Church Bitches!!

Here is the Christ Church Bitches!!! And with Brad sneaking in no doubt!

UGH! I'm annoyed!

WHHHHHHY? Are some people more "technically inclined" than others? I ask you this as I have spent the last hour reading through my new digital camera "Owners Manual" and can not for the life of me figure out WHY I CAN'T GET THE DAMN PHOTOS ON MY COMPUTER, If I do take the plunge into reading further it requires 15 steps of configuring this to that, and downloading this to that, and connecting this shit to that.......I $%^^@&*(&%%%#%#%^#^%#%#^%*&^*(*) HATE THIS!!! I'm really close to hurling myself off the balcony, and I think to myself in deep vain, I thought these things were supposed to be "EASY". ^&*%## THAT, putting my cassette into in Sony Yellow watersports Walkman was easy, and the feel of that rubber covered button was easy. All these damn cables and downloading shite!!! Sure you want to own it, but do you have the patience to learn how to work it. I should stick to my 8-track, Ghetto and Record Player, GOOD GOD< I live alone, but the neighbours would swear I was talking to someone what with my screaming and crying at a loud register. I must be European! Just think if I had an Ipod Nano? I would have to take a week off work to learn it. Christ, I have to start having kids if only for the sole purpose that they can show me how to work this technology!
Carly, I know Noah is less than 8 months old, but can he come over next weekend to show me how to use my printer????
Sweet Jesus, I am a Retard!@

Jean Paul Goude

SO FAR SO GOUDE! Check out this book, his work is amazing! And I can't imagine having sex with that man woman Grace Jones, imagine those man hands wiping food off your face!

So Far, So Goude represents Goude’s work from the late 1960s up to the present. It is, in fact, an artist’s autobiography, the life told through the work, since Goude has never been able or willing to separate his personal growth and personal desires from his art. Beginning with the strongest influences of his early years, it moves with unusual honesty and a good deal of humour through his teenage love of dance (his mother was a Broadway dancer), sport and jazz; his youthful hangouts in the sixties; his years at art school and his discovery of drawing as a means of seduction; his time at Esquire; his revolutionary work with Grace Jones for Jungle Fever; his videos for MTV and for Azzedine Alaïa; his advertising work for Lee Cooper, Chanel, Cacharel; his involvement with the Bicentennial Parade; his wife and family…
Selected and arranged by Jean-Paul Goude himself, written by Goude and Patrick Mauriès, So Far So Goude is the definitive book on the work of an extraordinarily innovative, talented and unorthodox man. With more than 350 illustrations in full color, it will be endlessly fascinating to all those interested in fashion illustration, photography, and all avenues of commercial design and advertising.
